Example of AllKidsGo!™ Teaching Tools:
Distinguish Present from Past
This game, "Is Or Was," uses animation to help the child learn the difference between present and past action --
something that is difficult to present clearly with non-animated pictures in books.
The following example illustrates how this works:
The child is asked (by voice prompt) to watch an action -- for example, a monkey holding a match:
In the "present" case, the monkey continues to hold the match
while two sentences fade in (with spoken sound).
Clicking on the correct sentence brings up the next screen, which reinforces the concept of "present":
In the answer slide, clicking on the sentence or on the monkey triggers speech describing the situation.
In the "past" case, the monkey holds the match briefly, then throws it away, as illustrated below.
(In the game, this is always a high-quality one-time animation rather than a loop.)
Clicking on the correct sentence brings up applause and the "answer" slide:
Clicking on the "answer sentence" sounds it out; clicking on the monkey triggers speech by the "actor"
(in this case, the monkey saying "I WAS holding the match, but I'm not holding it now!")
