An owl mother and three baby owls come for one of their regular visits in the old cedar tree in front of the author's home in Hampton Bays, NY. They seem even more fascinated with the caged-up people in that house than the people are with the antics of the owls. Certainly, they are not afraid of those curious creatures.
Small as they are, the owlets are already very distinct characters. There is Jazzy Bobber, impatient for the FUN to begin … whereas Sleepy-head can wait indefinitely … and Fluffy-muddle just can't believe what he is seeing!
And, of course, there is Mother Owl - the silent, meditative, "nothing-escapes-me" type, watching over them, waiting for nightfall, when she will teach her brood the owl basics.
